Lead partner’s proposals will be reviewed by the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region

A working group was held at the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region to discuss potential amendments to the regional legislation in order to develop cycling infrastructure in the Leningrad Region as well as to popularize cycling tourism and cycling culture.

The opening speech was delivered by the Head of the Working Group, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Education, Science, Culture, Tourism, Sports and Youth Affairs of the Legislative Assembly of the Len ingrad Region Alexander Vladimirovich Russkih. He spoke about plans to develop cycling infrastructure within the framework of the «Velo 47» project, being implemented by the Leningrad Region.

The report by Alexander Russkih was supplemented by a presentation by Marina Isakova, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Tourism of the Leningrad Region. She told the participants about plans of the Committee for development of tourist cycling routes.

The meeting was attended by the manager of the CBC project «Cycling» Yuri Pavlov. He delivered a presentation on proposals to amend current legislation in order to develop cycling infrastructure, developed by the Directorate, the lead partner, within the project.

As a result of the meeting, it was decided that the proposed initiatives would be discussed further and internally at the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region with a view to later send them for consideration by the federal level authorities.

Project «Adaptation of new approaches to develop cycling and cycling routes between Russia and Finland to improve safety, mobility and environment, and to promote social development (the case: Svetogorsk – Imatra cycle track)» (project «Cycling») is implemented by the Directorate since 2018 in collaboration with the City of Imatra, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of the South-East Finland and City of Svetogorsk with financial support from the South-East Finland – Russia CBC Programme.
