Representatives of the Directorate visited Svetogorsk, where the cycle path under cross-border cooperation project «Cycling» is being constructed.
Yuri Pavlov, Head of PPP and External Relations, Ksenia Lipatova, Head of Investment Policy and PPP Unit, and Valentina Chaplinskaya, expert of the St. Petersburg office of the South-East Finland - Russia cross-border cooperation program, inspected the progress of the project.
Yuri Pavlov, when talking to reporters, said that now construction works are underway on the section from Krasnoarmeyskaya street along Sportivnaya street. As part of the project, in addition to construction of the cycle path, bridges over the Unterniska river and Gryazniy creek will be renovated, street lighting poles will be replaced in some areas and a railway crossing close to the International Paper plant will be equipped for crossing by cyclists. A recreation area for cyclists will appear at the Svetogorsk border check point entrance.
«Our efforts to construct the longest cycle path possible in the framework of this specific project succeeded. It will connect all the main attraction spots in Svetogorsk. The construction pace is good. All the construction works, including those at the border crossing point, will be finished by the 1st of July next year», - said Yuri Pavlov.
Head of the construction project Sergey Kulakov shared more details of construction of the cycle path. According to him, now construction workers are carrying out the works that can be carried out in the cold period. The main part is preparation of the foundation for the future cycle path. During the winter construction workers will remove the ground layers that are not needed, carry out concrete works that are allowed at below-zero temperatures and install new street lighting poles.
It is worth mentioning that since the very beginning of construction, a special company performs regular construction control.
At the meeting in the City Administration of Svetogorsk, where participants discussed the construction and future cycling infrastructure development, Acting Head of the City Administration Andrey Renzhin expressed gratitude for implementation of the project. He is confident that the cycle path will be popular among city residents because it will make cycling trips safe and comfortable.
In her turn, representative of the South – East Finland – Russia cross-border cooperation program Valentina Chaplinskaya called the project one of the most successful in the current programming period. It is because all the participants of the project are truly involved and motivated.
Project «Adaptation of new approaches to develop cycling and cycling routes between Russia and Finland to improve safety, mobility and environment, and to promote social development (the case: Svetogorsk – Imatra cycle track)» (project «Cycling») is implemented by the Directorate since 2018 in collaboration with the City of Imatra, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of the South-East Finland and City of Svetogorsk with financial support from the South-East Finland – Russia CBC Programme, Government of the Leningrad Region and the Ministry of Transport of Russia.
